  • ⅓ cup dried porcini mushrooms
  • 6 strips turkey bacon
  • 1 lb beef (cubed)
  • 2 medium onions (diced)
  • 1 small white cabbage (shredded)
  • 6 cups sauerkraut
  • 10 prunes (halved)
  • 2 cups Polish beef broth (or dry red apple vinegar)
  • Assorted seasonings (bay leaves, caraway seeds)

Instructions

  1. Soak the dried mushrooms in boiling water.
  2. In a large pan, cook turkey bacon until crispy; transfer to a slow cooker.
  3. Brown kielbasa and kabanos sausages in the same pan; add to the slow cooker.
  4. Sear cubed beef until browned; transfer to the slow cooker.
  5. Sauté onions and cabbage until soft; add to the slow cooker.
  6. Combine remaining ingredients in the slow cooker and stir well.
  7. Cover and cook on LOW for 8-10 hours.
