  • 6 ounces semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (cubed for cookies)
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup light brown sugar (packed for cookies)
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F. Line a baking dish with parchment paper and arrange saltine crackers in a single layer.
  2. In a saucepan, melt butter and brown sugar over medium heat until boiling; cook without stirring for about 4–5 minutes. Pour over crackers and bake for 4–5 minutes.
  3. Melt butter in another saucepan over medium heat until golden brown; let cool slightly.
  4. Whisk together flour and baking soda in a bowl, then add sugars and browned butter. Stir in eggs and vanilla until combined.
  5. Chill dough briefly before mixing in broken toffee pieces.
