  • 2 pounds Yukon gold potatoes
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking dish with butter.
  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine heavy cream, whole milk, minced garlic, salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Heat until warm but not boiling.
  3. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the greased baking dish, pour half of the cream mixture over them, and sprinkle half of the cheeses on top.
  4. Repeat with the remaining potatoes, cream mixture, and cheese.
  5. Dot the top with butter pieces and cover with foil; bake for 40 minutes.
  6. Remove the foil and bake an additional 20 minutes until golden brown and bubbly.
  7. Allow it to cool slightly before serving.
