  • 2/3 cups milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine molasses, shortening, sugar, egg, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
  3. Gradually add baking soda, hot water, ground cloves, cinnamon, salt, ginger, and flour. Mix just until combined.
  4. Roll out dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick; cut into desired shapes.
  5. Place cookies on a parchment-lined baking sheet; bake for about 10 minutes until edges firm up but centers remain soft.
