Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf of brioche or challah bread (1214 slices)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk (or almond/oat milk)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream (or half-and-half)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Cut the brioche or challah into thick slices and arrange them in a greased baking dish.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  3. Pour the custard over the bread slices, pressing gently to ensure they soak up the mixture. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or overnight.
  4. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and set. Optionally broil for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  6. Sprinkle sugar on top and use a kitchen torch to caramelize until crispy; alternatively, broil briefly.
  7. Let cool slightly before serving with fresh berries and maple syrup.
