Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound sirloin or NY strip steak, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 8 ounces white mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2 zucchini, cut into sticks
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon fruit juice or broth (as a substitute for mirin)
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Butter for cooking
  • Sesame seeds for garnish
  • Sliced green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. Season steak pieces with salt and pepper. Heat 1 tablespoon vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add steak and cook for 2-3 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
  2. In the same pan, add the remaining vegetable oil and the sesame oil. Sauté mushrooms and onions for 4-5 minutes until softened. Add zucchini and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  3. Push vegetables to the side of the pan. Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in the center, then add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant.
  4. In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, fruit juice or broth, and honey; pour into the pan with vegetables.
  5. Return cooked steak to the pan; stir to combine and simmer for 1-2 minutes until slightly thickened. Stir in the remaining tablespoon of butter until melted.
  6. Serve hot garnished with sesame seeds and sliced green onions.
