Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup buttermilk
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (for glaze)
  • 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp pure maple syrup
  • 1–2 tbsp milk (for thinning, as needed)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together softened butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients and buttermilk alternately until just combined.
  5. Spread batter evenly into the prepared pan and bake for 22–25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool completely before glazing.
  6. For the glaze, melt butter in a saucepan until golden brown. Whisk in powdered sugar, maple syrup, and add milk as needed to reach desired consistency.
  7. Drizzle glaze over cooled bars and let set before slicing.
