  • 1 1/2 cups warm milk
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 1/3 cups almond meal
  • 2 teaspoons almond extract
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (for frosting)
  • 4 ounces cream cheese (for frosting)
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar (for frosting)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract (for frosting)
  • a pinch of salt (for frosting)
  • 1/2 cup slivered almonds (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Warm the milk and mix it with flour, sugar, yeast, salt, melted butter, and egg until combined.
  2. Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth and elastic.
  3. Let the dough rise in a greased bowl until doubled in size (about 45 minutes).
  4. Prepare the filling by mixing softened butter, almond meal, sugar, egg, extracts, and salt until smooth.
  5. Roll out the dough into a rectangle; spread the filling evenly and roll it tightly.
  6. Cut into twelve pieces and let them rise again for about 30 minutes.
