  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1 cup cold whole milk
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup chocolate batons or semi-sweet chocolate
  • 1 large egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon milk (optional for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon confectioners’ sugar (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
  2. Add the cold milk and stir until combined; the dough should be slightly sticky.
  3. Knead on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  4. Chill the dough for 30 minutes while preparing the butter shaped into a rectangle.
  5. Roll out the dough and encase the chilled butter within it, folding over to seal.
  6. Roll out and fold the dough into thirds three times to create layers.
  7. Roll out one last time, cut triangles, place chocolate pieces at the base, and roll tightly.
  8. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for about 20 minutes until golden brown.
